Melissa is a clinical social worker (MSW) who obtained her degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2001. Melissa has been working in the field of counseling and social work since 1995 and has experience across many therapeutic settings that include crisis management, acute care, residential care, treatment foster care and outpatient therapy. Over the past 20 years she has served a variety of populations ranging from children as young as 3 years old to adolescents, adults and families from multiple ethnic groups and socioeconomic backgrounds. Melissa is a trained play therapist and is currently working on completing her training as an EMDR clinician.
Melissa enjoys working with clients who have experienced problems with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, loss, and perinatal/ postpartum related struggles. She believes in using a variety of treatment modalities to tailor her approach to meet the needs of each individual. She is also able to address the unique and sensitive needs of people in the LGBTQ community.
Melissa is excited to re-enter private practice after being on extended maternity leave. She has been an LCSW since 2005. In 2013, after the birth of her second child, she placed her license on inactive status in order to dedicate all of her time and resources to her family. Richmond Creative Counseling is happy to have Melissa join our practice under the direct supervision of Kim Hines, LCSW while she fulfills the requirements necessary to reactivate her license. We feel that she brings a wide range of knowledge and expertise to our highly innovative therapy practice.
