Joseph Walsh is a licensed clinical social worker with almost 40 years of practice experience in mental health interventions. He is a professor emeritus of social work at Virginia Commonwealth University where he taught courses in social work practice and related areas for 25 years. Prior to his university appointment Joe worked in a psychiatric hospital and several community mental health settings, where he specialized in services to persons with severe and persistent emotional problems. While at VCU he provided general outpatient services to adults at the University Counseling Center and Center for Psychological Services. He enjoys providing clinical social work interventions for persons and couples with many types of problems and maintains his interest in persons with severe emotional problems, including personality disorders. Joe uses both reflective and cognitive-behavioral interventions in his practice.
