Katie is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a collaborative and integrative approach to counseling, incorporating EMDR, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and expressive modalities such as Sandtray therapy, play therapy, Yoga, art-making, and mindfulness in her therapy sessions. Katie has highly specialized experience in working with adult and child survivors of complex trauma, such as sexual abuse/violence, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking. Over the past 6 years, Katie served individuals in a variety of roles at Safe Harbor, where her most recent role as Director of Counseling and Advocacy involved overseeing all of the clinical operations of this wonderful local non-profit serving individuals and families who are victims/survivors of domestic violence.
Katie obtained her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Old Dominion University and is the recipient of the Virginia Commonwealth University's Distinguished Advocate award in 2016. She has facilitated dozens of workshops and presentations on trauma and advocacy work through the years and is now excited to return to her clinical roots by providing direct clinical care to children and adults in an outpatient setting. Katie has completed nearly all of her 150 hours of play therapy education and all of her play therapy supervision hours towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of clinical issues. Katie is a culturally competent counselor who is LGBTQIA affirming.
