Background:

Before she became a Licensed Professional Counselor, Meg worked in education for fifteen years as a public school teacher and administrator. Her passion for the growth and well-being of individual children fueled her shift from education to counseling. She believes strongly that every individual deserves the experience of secure attachments and the opportunity to be heard and accepted, that internal barriers to those experiences can be surmounted in therapy, and that creative self-expression in the context of a safe haven can facilitate positive emotional and behavioral change. When working with children, she is devoted to supporting parents/caregivers and affirms their efforts using Solution-Focused and Person-Centered techniques. Meg also utilizes aspects of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Arts, and Play within the framework of a strong therapeutic alliance to help children and adults overcome fears, develop bonds, and explore their own strengths. As a Registered Play Therapist, Meg works with children and teens using the natural language of play to sort through life stressors and make sense of complicated situations. She has received specialized training in sand tray, clay (Play Doh) therapy, and Theraplay. In addition to working creatively with children, Meg also spends half her time working with adults who struggle with a variety of issues, including depression, eating disorders, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and substance abuse/addiction. She is especially helpful in working with adult children of personality-disordered parents. She is a fully trained and EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist. She has an Advanced Certificate in Integrative Therapies.
