Background:

Sarah Farber is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a strong passion for helping adults to find peace and relief no matter what life brings their way. She received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from College of Charleston, and a Master's in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to coming to Richmond Creative Counseling, Sarah worked at VCU Health System for 10 years where she provided therapy to adults with mental health and substance use disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings. She spent several years at VCU’s addictions clinic and working with people who are navigating recovery is one of her passions. In 2022, Sarah completed her Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training. She has found EMDR to be a very useful approach for working through past trauma or other “old stuff” that you just can’t seem to let go of, even if traditional talk therapy hasn’t been helpful in the past.

Sarah uses a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach and often utilizes EMDR, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. She works with adults who experience addiction, trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, as well as those who are struggling with life adjustments, relationship difficulties, or managing stress. She strives to create an affirming, safe, and inviting space for those within the LGBTQIA+ community and for people of all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. She has a genuine, compassionate presence and finds that humor can be a helpful tool in therapy.

In her spare time, she enjoys cuddling with her cat and dog, doing yoga, and spending time outdoors.
