Background:

Kim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.  She has vast experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and families.  She specializes in working with issues related to adoption, foster care, sexual abuse, complex trauma, attachment, depression, anxiety, grief, and loss.  Kim has enjoyed being an outpatient therapist for over 11 years.  She has also enjoyed her experience as a leader with social work students in their field placements and therapeutic work with adoptees and adoptive parents. 

Kim comes from a strengths-based perspective and her therapeutic approach includes psychodynamic, trauma-focused, crisis intervention and family systems therapy.  As a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, Kim incorporates sandtray therapy, expressive arts, bibliotherapy, narrative and Filial therapies into her practice.  She is also certified in Theraplay. She is passionate and committed to her work with children, adolescents and their families.  Kim considers therapy to be her life’s work and finds it an honor to be entrusted with being a vessel for others each day.

Kim enjoys providing supervision for licensure as well as for Registered Play Therapy certification. Kim leads the Richmond Creative Counseling Play Therapy training program, offering APT and NBCC-approved training to clinicians nationwide. She is currently in the process of completing her certification as a Certified Trauma Practitioner through the National Institute for Trauma & Loss in Children.
