Background:
Dr. Andreia Sabau, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC (she/her), is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, mood disorders, and other mental health concerns. With extensive experience across crisis intervention, inpatient psychiatry, and community-based treatment, she offers a calm, steady presence—particularly during periods of high stress, emotional uncertainty, or major life transitions.
Dr. Sabau’s approach is collaborative and patient centered. She takes time to listen closely, understand your lived experience and goals, and partner with you to create an individualized treatment plan that is both practical and sustainable. Her clinical services include comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnostic clarification, and thoughtful psychopharmacological management, with careful follow-up to monitor effectiveness, side effects, and overall well-being. She practices from a trauma-informed perspective and prioritizes emotional safety, trust, and respect in every interaction.
In addition to outpatient care, Dr. Sabau continues to work on inpatient psychiatric units, supporting individuals who require a higher level of care and acute stabilization. This ongoing inpatient practice helps her stay closely connected to the realities of severe symptoms, complex presentations, and evidence-based inpatient standards—insight she brings into her outpatient work to support timely, appropriate treatment planning.
Dr. Sabau also has specialized expertise in perinatal mental health, shaped by many years working in high-risk obstetrics. She is attentive to the unique emotional, hormonal, and biological changes that can occur during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and she approaches this season of life with additional sensitivity and clinical precision.
Dr. Sabau earned her Master of Science in Nursing (PMHNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice at George Mason University and has provided psychiatric care across hospital, emergency, and community settings throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Her goal is for every patient to feel heard, supported, and empowered—so they can move toward greater stability, relief, and improved quality of life.
