Service Description

Trainers: Kimberly Hines, LCSW, RPT-S December 12th & 13th, 2025. 14 APT Contact Hours Learn about the process of play therapy when working with children and families with unique multicultural and social considerations. This 2-day workshop will focus primarily on exploring and improving cultural competence in play therapy, working with LGBTQ children/families, and play therapy approaches with older teens and adults. Participants will: 1) Identify and describe the importance of culturally-sensitive toys and play spaces in play therapy. 2) Describe specific cultural considerations related to race/ethnicity, religion, sexuality, and gender in play therapy. 3) Explain the role and qualities of a culturally sensitive play therapist. 4) Explain and practice specific considerations when using non-directive and directive play therapy approaches with diverse populations. 5) Demonstrate specific play therapy techniques when working with adults and older teens in play therapy. 6) Explain the differences between gender expression and sexuality and how this may show up in play therapy sessions. 7) Practice and demonstrate specific play therapy interventions for children who are gender non-binary or diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria. 8) Practice and demonstrate documentation and ethical considerations when working with diverse populations.
