Sandtray in Play Therapy Trainer: Kimberly Hines, LCSW, RPT-S May 16th & 17th, 2025. 14 APT Contact Hours Learn about the history, rationale, and general application of sandtray work in Play Therapy. Basic facilitation skills, theoretical concepts, non-directed vs. directed sandtrays, and steps for processing a sandtray will be demonstrated and practiced in this in-person 2-day workshop. Participants will: 1) Identify and describe the history and theoretical foundation of sandplay and sandtray therapy. 2) Describe the qualities and role of the play therapist when using sandtray therapy. 3) Practice and demonstrate how to set up a sandtray space and the stages of conducting/facilitating sandtray session in play therapy. 4) Describe the developmental aspects of sandtrays in play therapy. 5) Demonstrate the differences between spontaneous and directed sandtrays in play therapy. 6) Practice and experience the process of creating both spontaneous and directed sandtrays. 7) List and describe ethical considerations of utilizing a sandtray in play therapy. 8) Document a mock play therapy session with the use of sandtray.
