Background:

Amy Cooper (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who received her M.Ed. in Counselor Education with a concentration in couples and family counseling. Her training focuses on helping individuals, couples, and families navigate personal and professional challenges through a systemic framework.
When working with couples, Amy enjoys helping her clients identify the negative cycles and patterns that keep them stuck, incorporating interventions from the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy. She has experience supporting both individuals and couples who may be struggling with Relationship OCD (ROCD), blending her training in relationship work and OCD treatment to provide targeted, compassionate care.
Amy also works with clients experiencing anxiety, particularly when it shows up in the context of parenting and relationships. She supports clients in building emotional regulation skills, reducing worry, and navigating relational stress with more confidence and clarity.
Additionally, she has received specialized training in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and is passionate about supporting clients through Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), a highly effective, evidence-based approach for managing OCD.
With a background in teaching Spanish and extensive travel to various Spanish-speaking countries, Amy values cultural humility and strives to provide culturally responsive, identity-affirming care. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming and committed to supporting clients of all backgrounds with respect, openness, and inclusion. Amy offers sessions in both English and Spanish.
In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two children, exploring Richmond’s restaurant scene, reading, listening to podcasts, watching TV, cooking and baking, and experimenting with watercolor painting.

Después de doce años trabajando como maestra de español y habiendo viajado extensamente por varios países de habla hispana, Amy valora la humildad cultural y se esfuerza por ofrecer una atención culturalmente sensible y afirmativa de la identidad. Afirma y apoya a personas LGBTQIA+ y se compromete a brindar un espacio terapéutico respetuoso, abierto e inclusivo para personas de todos los orígenes. En su tiempo libre, a Amy le gusta pasar tiempo al aire libre con su esposo y sus dos hijos, explorar los restaurantes de Richmond, leer, escuchar podcasts, ver programas de realidad y experimentar con la pintura en acuarela.
