Background:
Andrea Aron-Schiavone (she/her) is a therapist at RCC and a supervisee in clinical social work who has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with a variety of challenges including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm, challenges with adjustment/life transitions, and grief.
Andrea comes from a professional background of working with individuals affected by childhood and sexual trauma, as well as with children with emotional, behavioral and learning challenges. She has worked in residential settings with youth struggling with suicidal ideation and self-harm, depression, and anxiety. She has also worked with children, youth, and families involved in the foster care system. She is deeply passionate about grief work and supporting clients in processing both death and non-death losses. She uses a client-centered, strengths-based approach to help people grow towards the healthiest and most resilient version of themselves. Coming from a social work background, Andrea is passionate about social justice and incorporates an intersectional, anti- racist, and trauma-informed lens into her practice.
Andrea understands that an approach or framework which works best for one client may not work best for another, and aims to adapt her approaches to create a personalized and affirming therapeutic experience for each client. Andrea incorporates a variety of methods and frameworks into her practice, including concepts from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), CBT, attachment theory, and expressive arts modalities to partner with clients in helping them see their strengths and develop a deeper awareness and understanding of their thoughts and feelings. It is through deepening this awareness and understanding that clients can bring meaningful change to themselves, their relationships and their lives. Andrea strives to approach each client with unconditional positive regard to create a warm, collaborative, encouraging, and non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to process their most vulnerable thoughts and feelings.
Andrea firmly believes in a growth mindset, and that with support, clients are capable of growth and change that can create flourishing in their lives. She believes in the dignity, worth, and resilience of each client, and considers it a true honor to be trusted with walking alongside them through the greatest challenges they face.
Andrea works with children 7 years old and older, adolescents/teens, and adults. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming/friendly. She is currently working towards completion of her licensure to become an LCSW.
When not working, Andrea enjoys long phone calls with loved ones, cooking new and old favorite recipes, watercoloring, window shopping in Carytown, and taking walks around Richmond.
