Background:
It's understandable that focusing on oneself often takes a backseat amidst life's stressors, obligations, and relationships. We frequently resort to avoidance and defense mechanisms to cope. As a devoted supporter, I invite my clients to explore and integrate personal insights to address their needs, whether it's implementing change, gaining a better handle on life, or increasing self-awareness. I genuinely enjoy guiding you on your journey of self-discovery.
I believe that past experiences and relationships fundamentally influence our present, often surfacing unexpectedly and profoundly. Connecting the past with the present can provide the clarity and understanding you deserve.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia and have provided therapeutic services for 7 years. My past experiences include providing services within a community mental health clinic, leading groups at a substance abuse center, and fulfilling various roles during my time working at an eating disorder treatment center. These experiences have led me to specialize in working with individuals struggling with co-occuring mood disorders, trauma, disordered eating, body image concerns, addiction, and low self-esteem. I also have a personal interest in working with those on the neurodivergent spectrum, including Autism, ADHD, sensory processing sensitivities, and obsessive-compulsive behavior.
Above all, I strive to show up as a fellow human in session, using a very down-to earth-approach that includes both humor and curiosity to naturally develop our connection. I utilize the development of our therapeutic relationship as a foundation, with psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavior therapy when appropriate. Our time together will be a collaboration, and what ultimately matters the most is your feedback on our time spent together. Therapy is whatever you want it to be and whatever you need it to be, and I will gladly meet you where your needs are on any given day.
When I am not working, I am usually next to one of my animals (I love both cats and dogs equally!), and am spending my days attempting to make my loved ones laugh. I love keeping up with the latest television series and definitely dedicate too much space in my mind to pop culture. I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons, painting my nails vibrant colors, and discovering new music.
