Nate Stocking, Counseling Intern

Nathan (he/him) is a graduate student working towards his Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. After receiving a bachelor’s in biology in 2012, Nathan spent the next several years trying on different careers, ranging from veterinary medicine to IT and project management. Eventually, Nathan found his true fit in the mental health field and returned to school in 2020. He received his bachelor’s in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2022.
Nathan believes in the importance of attending to factors outside our conscious awareness and considering how they impact conscious thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. As such Nathan operates from a psychodynamic frame, however he aims to integrate elements from multiple theoretical approaches to tailor fit therapy to each client.
Nathan has a clinical interest in somatic therapy as well as movement and dance therapy. He believes that the mind and the body are intimately connected and seeks to develop approaches where each are cared for and support the health of the other.
When not a work, Nathan enjoys pole dancing with a local studio, CrossFit, practicing yoga, and spending time at the beach or hiking with his partner Qamar and their dog, Pip.
During his practicum and internship, Nate will be under the clinical supervision of Hunter Greer, LPC.
